WAXING LYRICAL

New from Wax Tailor and part of their Yorkshire Gold range is Liquid Gold Wax Cleaner that I tried on the notoriously difficult to clean well black Mica paint on my Audi, a surface that is a genuinely good gauge of a polish’s ability with many so-called market leaders not cutting it (literally!).

Some struggle to remove swirl marks on it, but this one did a pleasingly good job, and it seemed to give a deep lustre that enhanced the colour and shine, fully bringing out the glitter-effect in the paint. During this week’s heavy rain I noticed that water on More >

IT’S NOT LIMITED AND IT WON’T SLIP

Now available from 3J Driveline, is their NXG English limited slip differential, which they claim is the most progressive and versatile LSD unit in the market-place.

The 3J plate pack runs with eight active surfaces, even in lighter settings, giving maximum surface contact area during use. The 3J pre-load spacer helps dissipate loadings. Rather than just have two or three settings this unit can be ‘fine-tuned’ to particular pre-load settings with a choice of ramps.

The bevel and planet gear pack has been designed to smooth, strong and eliminating the rattle and excessive back lash that can occur. Dual Ramps available are 30/90, More >

TAPERED PERFORMANCE

For many years classic Porsche, air-cooled Beetle and American V8 owners have been using Weber downdraft IDA carburettors to improve the performance of their engines.

Now Jenvey has launched a throttle body designed to replace the IDA carburettor to facilitate a conversion to EFi. Most noticeable is the bore spacing of these throttle bodies. Most Weber carbs have a bore spacing of 90mm but the IDA/TA has a larger one of 120mm.

Jenvey’s TAP48i also has a bore spacing of 120mm making them suitable for classic Beetle and Bus four cylinder engines and 289 Cobras and 427 big block engines.

LASER WATER TREATMENT

Laser Tools’ new British-designed water pump tester (part no. 5583) has been developed to test the function of mechanically driven cooling system water pumps in situ, while the engine is running. The tester gives an effective indication of the coolant flow by measuring the small pressure rises that occur due to the coolant flowing around the block.

The tester can assist in identifying pump issues due to damaged impellers, seizing impellor shafts and excessive water pump belt or drive slippage. Many modern water pump impellers are made of plastic and can break up without showing any external leaks. This kit can More >

SUITS YOU, SIR. IT’S TAILORED, YOU KNOW…

Respected UK exhaust manufacturer Milltek has solved a perennial problem for many conscientious owners; namely, how to restore their stainless exhaust system to an ‘as-new’ condition when detailing the car. After several months of testing in all markets and weather conditions, Milltek has released a tailored metal polish that will render any stainless steel exhaust system or metal component ready for concours or show duty, with the minimum of effort.

The polish has been developed by Milltek’s engineers in association with leading car care experts, Dodo Juice. The result is a high shine, mid-abrasive polish that can be used on all More >

ANOTHER NEW GONG!

The advanced paintcare product, Armor All Shield, has outshone all other 24 entrants in the annual Auto Express Product Awards, to win the category of Best Wax & Polish.

Paint protection is at the heart of the Auto Express test and the magazine made it tougher in this year’s awards, not only monitoring water-beading through seven winter weeks but also including regular washing to more closely match what happens in every day motoring. The test procedure also took into account ease of application and price, including the fact that hard waxes are used more slowly than liquid versions.

WHEELY RIGHT?

Automotive artisan Calibre has released yet another stunning wheel design into the market. The freshly-hued gunmetal GTR, their latest deep-dish design, offers a stunning six-spoke profile, combined with the perfect dish and the all-important deep lip.

As its Eastern good-looks suggest, the wheel is aimed squarely at the Jap and tuner markets, but its superbly understated visage means it will doubtless be a hit on the VAG scene, with fitments being available for all of the usual suspects.

Size wise, you’re spoilt for choice, with staggered 18in offered in either 8in or 9in widths and 19in diameter available in both 8½in and More >

IT’S A WHOPPER

Bromyard-based, Holden Vintage and Classic, is a company well-known to kitcar enthusiasts, of course, and as their name suggests they specialise in often hard to find components and accessories that can make the difference when building a period-correct sympathetic replica whether it be Andre Hartford dampers to Bakelite-style toggle switches.

The company is celebrating a marvellous 25-year anniversary in 2013 and have just launched a thumping A4, 428-page catalogue (their tenth), which, I think, sets new standards for such items as it obviously packed with stuff of the essential, distress and impulse variety and features a superb clear and concise layout.
