NORTHERN LIGHT – KIT EBIKE

On Sunday morning at Malvern, a new kitcar rolled into the hall (having missed the first day due to other commitments).

The Northern Light 630, a very innovative three-wheeler, is classed as an eBike and weighs just 77kg. One of the men behind the project, Graham Browne, is a noted automotive designer.

He started working at TVR in Blackpool as a student under the late Peter Wheeler, initially working on the Tuscan, interior stuff on the Lee Hodgetts, Daren Hobbs and Martin Smith designed T350 and then the T400, Typhon, the Sagaris, Tuscan convertible and Sagaris 2 as chief designer.

LATEST BOXSTER-BASED KIT BREAKS COVER

New manufacturer Vale Automotive debuted their Porsche Boxster 986-based Boxster GT1 at Malvern last weekend.

Based near Derry in Northern Ireland the company endured a nightmare week pre-show, with a marathon Stranraer to Plymouth journey, an issue with their hired trailer that delayed the six hours saw them arrive at Malvern looking slightly frayed around the edges.

Their very striking demo car wasn’t completely finished but showed lots of promise. Kits are priced at £11,000 and the company can supply directly to anywhere in the UK (and Ireland, of course) from their base.

We’ll be bringing you more on this one in due More >

ILLUMINATING STUFF FROM OSRAM

Renowned lighting specialist, OSRAM, has a vast range of bulbs to suit every driver, so to make sure they are recommending the right replacement to their customers, it would be wise for workshops and technicians to understand the differences between the various OSRAM offerings.

There’s a common misconception with bulbs being a seasonal product only, however, bulbs can dim at any point during the year and it’s crucial to replace bulbs as soon as possible to ensure optimal lighting during dark nights. While the sun doesn’t set until 8pm, it’s still a safety critical component to replace, and therefore, provides factors More >

Wire ferrules, when used with the correct crimping tool, replace the need for tinning the wire ends with solder. The ferrules are crimped onto the end of a bare wire to improve support of the wire and the connection quality.

This new set from Laser Tools (part number 8582) includes a 4-tooth crimping tool that ensures a tidy and very strong crimp. This crimping tool gives a More >

Steve Hole tells the story of Manchester-based Beaujangle Sales Ltd. Images by Carol Hardy

Salford, Manchester-based company run by Nik Sandeman-Allen, a glassfibre specialist and well-known drag racer, Phil ‘Ziggy’ Smith.

The pair were passionate hot rod enthusiasts and ran separate operations (Smith as Mr Beaujangle in an Opus HRF called ‘Anomalous’ with Daimler V8) until they amalgamated their businesses, becoming known for building all manner of bonkers vehicles from their lock-up in Back Tootal Lane, Salford, under the Beaujangle Enterprises name. However, they were known to rodders as ‘Bojay’.
