The Type 9 (aka ‘Type N’ gearbox in some workshop manuals) was Ford’s first rear wheel drive, five-speed gearbox. It was based on the four-speed Type E and features a cast iron main case with alloy tail housing.

This gearbox is the most commonly used for five-speed conversions on older vehicles, not just for classic Fords but for other classic makes such as MG and Triumph as well as thousands of kitcars, of course.

A four-wheel drive version of this ‘box was also available and was fitted in early XR4x4 and Granada Mk3 models. With original parts for classic Fords becoming harder More >

Mini Spares is now stocking a new type of plastic-bodied clutch master cylinder that will fit almost every Mini ever made.

While the part numbers have changed over the years, the shape, size and function has been the same. These items will work on ALL Minis.

The master cylinder is the heart of any hydraulic system and the hardest to troubleshoot. A pedal that can be slowly pushed to the floor indicates that the cylinder is worn. Fluid dripping off either the brake or clutch pedal is a sure sign that the respective master cylinder is leaking and requires replacement.

A comfortable and ergonomic driving position is vital for safe driving, both on the road and on the track.

The ergonomic driver to wheel distance may be difficult to achieve with aftermarket seats and steering wheels and the fact that some racing classes now demand fixed position seats.

B-G steering wheel spacers are designed to bring the steering wheel closer to the driver for improved steering input and driver comfort and are multi-drilled for both 6x70mm and 6x74mm PCD bolt patterns to accommodate the majority of aftermarket steering wheels.

The two-bolt patterns allow the spacers to be used as a hub spacer and/or More >

I was intrigued to see Powerlite’s Power Start device at the recent Race Retro show recently and if you’ve got an old British bike such as Triton or BSA you can save your leg muscles by using one of these to get your engine started.

Best-known for their superb range of starters and alternators the 36kg Power Start is a very neat product. It features integrated starter motor and dry battery cell.

It is operated by a foot switch and has duel driven rollers and is extremely ergonomic. If I had an old Norbsa in the shed I’d definitely buy one. A More >
