As has become the norm each year, Ultima’s presence at Stoneleigh last weekend was particularly impressive with fine examples of GTR and Can-Am plus bodyshells and everything Ultima-related, in a nutshell.

The Hinckley-based manufacturer even had a customer turn-up in his helicopter, landing in the grounds of Stoneleigh Park – as you do!

In more Ultima news, you can now buy an Ultima GTR or Can-Am kit for just £166.80 inc VAT. Before you choke on your Twix, let me clarify. The company has superbly detailed 1/12-scale radio controlled versions of their cars available now.

A kitcar manufacturer enjoying a very good 18-months is Sammio Motor Company who brought their latest model to Stoneleigh last weekend.

Known as the Cordite it is the latest addition to the Sammio Spyder with this one being based on Triumph Spitfire rather than Herald, which has involved some re-jigging of the car’s layout, with the cockpit moved back 8in resulting in a shorter rear section, which to these eyes gives the car a balanced stance.

The ‘valleys’ in the Spyder’s bonnet are also dispensed with to allow for fitment of the Spitfire’s carbs, which has also resulted in a slightly taller More >

The new V2 from Vortex Automotive was launched in complete form at Stoneleigh last weekend and although the colour was incredibly bright and vibrant there is much more to the new model from Chris Greville-Smith under the skin.

As a designer with real provenance (Ford, Jaguar and Land Rover, while he also designed the wheels for the MGF), there’s some innovative touches on the new model, with a light weight spaceframe chassis and Ford EcoBoost four-cylinder engine producing 280bhp – Duratec will also be an option – the kit price has been announced at £9900, which will be quite a comprehensive More >

Exciting new 'Coyote' V8 from Ford delivers 412bhp out-of-the-crate.

Over the past 20 or so years, the source of the vast majority of new Ford engines used in kitcars has been John Townley’s Powertorque Engineering operation based in Coventry and the company can supply four, six and eight cylinder units from the Blue Oval.

Current units such as Zetec SE (Duratec 16), 2-litre Duratec (Duratec 20 and Duratec 2.3-litre (Duratec 23) are available off-the-shelf from Powertorque, as are the range of Ford Racing’s American V8 crate motors and huge array of performance aftermarket parts.

Plenty going on at Dutch manufacturer, Faroux Sportscars, who were at Stoneleigh with their BMW-based MB1 Lotus Seven-inspired sportscar last weekend, plus news on their latest new model…

Their latest, following on quickly from the recently announced Faroux Coupe (Daytona replica, also based on BMW mechanicals) is a Porsche 917 replica that uses the Porsche Boxster as donor.

A spaceframe chassis has been created on CAD by Faroux boss, Marcel Benes, and the plan is to launch the car at next year’s Stoneleigh show, while they’ll be using lots of components from the Boxster in addition to the running gear such as More >

Lister Bell Automotive has been very busy with their STR Stratos replica since we last saw them at Exeter show back in October and their demonstrator looked particularly pleasing in its Alitalia livery at Stoneleigh.

The car is fitted with an Alfa Romeo 3-litre V6 engine and now features new Lister Bell components including revised gearchange mechanism now via cable, new seats, fully repackable bespoke exhaust system and the company’s own specification of replica wheels, which mean that rims up to 18in can now be accommodated.

They estimate that a decent DIY-built example can be completed from around £20,000.

The Intermeccanica marque was established by Frank Reisner some 52-years ago and various models have appeared over the years. Perhaps their most successful has been the Speedster 356-A replica, launched in 1976…

The car is now available in the UK once more via St.Andrews, Fife-based Ian Miller, who can supply the 356-A in complete form now.

Ian was at Stoneleigh on the Speedster & Spyder Club stand where I had the chance to take a close look at the car and there’s no doubt that it really is an impressive vehicle, with wind-up windows, high-back seats and ‘hidden’ switches along with period More >

MK Sportscars always put on a strong showing at Stoneleigh and this year was no different. I really liked this recently built example that should be with its overseas customer as you read this.
