A warm welcome to totalkitcar online … I know that lots of readers used our GOODS & SUPPLIERS listing as a guide to the specialist car aftermarket, so essential did they regard it. It needed an upgrade but it took a couple of years to get it right.

GOODS & SUPPLIERS is BACK. It’s certainly less wieldy, is easier to use and well, see what you think. It’s not yet complete by any means but is a workable and useful A-Z listing that I hope you enjoy using and check back regularly because I will be adding to it daily, almost.
TKC MAG – MAY/JUNE 2026 ISSUE – AVAILABLE NOW

Here’s this issue’s menu, or at least some of it.
Welcome to the ‘Groovy Baby’ issue. Why groovy baby? Well, four of the cars starring this time are inspired by, or are replicas of, sixties classics … not big, not clever, but quite descriptive we thought.
So, what have we got to tickle your fancy this time?
INDUSTRY GREATS – ULTIMA SPORTS – The Lee Noble and Marlow family years. The full story.
MYTHRON CARS SEBRING FASTBACK – No, it’s not a replica or a continuation or a kitcar. This is what the company call ‘ a reimagining of a sixties Sebring Sprite’
TORNADO TS40 MKII TRIBUTE – A superb example of a Tornado TS40 (I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad one) which is intended as a tribute to the late Dan Gurney.
ACE HAWK! – A glorious new build Hawk inspired by the AC Ace, which is the second Hawk built by Adam Cleden nearly twenty years after the first one, which was also a stunner!

WITHOUT OUR PAST SPECIAL! – This time we focus on four beatiful sports racers from the sixties.
MCLAREN M6GT – People often understandably believe that McLaren’s first road car was Professor Gordon Murray’s F1. However, a generation before that, Briuce McLaren had the idea for the GT. We tell the car’s story and also feature the replicas, the UVA M6GTR and Montage and also the Tornado TS70.
SINGLE SEAT RACECAR CONVERTED TO ROAD USE – There have been plenty of single-seat road-legal kitcars over the years but very few racing cars have been converted for use on the road, other than the Lotus 51 ‘Flower Power’ and a Van Diemen conversion back in the eighties. The latest to tackle such a monster project is serial kitcar builder Dave Swift who found an OMS hillclimber on eBay and yep, converted it to a road car!
Hope you enjoy the issue.

2026 marks this event’s second year. Head for the Dundee Museum of Transport

BIG UPDATE – Our popular TRACKDAY CALENDAR is where you can find out where, when and how much by CLICKING HERE. Now updated to cover MAY, JUNE and JULY 2026.
SNIPPETS 1 …….. According to a recent survey by Alcosense there is widespread public support for lowering the drink-drive limit in England and Wales.
A new survey of 2000 UK adults shows that 87 per cent believe stricter penalties are needed to deter people from driving under the influence.
The poll by personal breathalyser firm AlcoSense is an early indication of public sentiment, ahead of the Government’s recent Road Safety Strategy consultation.

Nearly eight in ten respondents (78 per cent) said the current legal alcohol limit should be lowered from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. Just 12 per cent said it should remain unchanged.
Half of those surveyed (50 per cent) said the limit should be slashed to 20mg or zero. A further 28 per cent said it should be brought into line with Scotland’s 50mg limit.
There is also a clear consensus for more immediate enforcement powers. Three quarters of respondents said police should be able to suspend a driver’s licence at the roadside if they test over the limit or refuse to provide a sample.
AlcoSense managing director Hunter Abbott said the findings, which included questions similar to those in the Government consultation, indicated a shift in public attitudes.
“People are saying the current system is not tough enough,” he said. “There is staunch support not only for lowering the alcohol limit, but also for giving police the powers they need to deal with offenders quickly and effectively.
“England and Wales currently have the highest drink-drive limit in Europe. Our research suggests this is no longer seen as acceptable.”
The call for stricter limits is even greater for higher-risk groups. Around two-thirds of respondents said commercial and novice drivers should be subject to a 20mg or zero limit.
The study suggests the public sees legal limits and police action as equally important. A majority (58 per cent) said the most effective way to tackle drink driving would be to combine a lower limit with more robust enforcement, rather than relying on either approach alone.

“There is a clear recognition that changing the law on its own is not enough,” said Abbott, who is also a member of PACTS.
“People want to see enforcement alongside it, so that the rules have real impact.
“Motorists who pose a risk should not be allowed to continue driving while legal proceedings are ongoing.”
The latest data published by the Department for Transport show there were 260 fatalities in drink-drive accidents in 2023, with a total of 6310 people injured in incidents involving drivers over the legal limit.
The survey findings also indicate that more stringent drink-drive laws will have limited impact on social behaviour. More than a third of those who visit pubs and restaurants said their habits would not change if the limit was reduced, while only a small minority (13 per cent) said they would be likely to visit licensed premises less often.
Abbott added: “With the consultation closing soon, this is a clear signal that the public expects meaningful Government action to improve road safety and prevent avoidable deaths and injuries.” More from https://alcosense.co.uk.
SNIPPETS 2 ……. I often get asked what my favourite kitcar is. Impossible for me to answer, although there are a lot bubbling around in a ‘greatest hits’ that lives inside my head!
Here’s one of them and my reasons why.
I present to you one of the finest kitcars ever produced, in my humble opinion. The FURY.

It epitomises everything that attracts people to kitcars – fun, easy to build, great to drive and affordable.
It’s no surprise that it works so well. It comes from the pen of the genius that is Jeremy Phillips and started life under his Sylva Autokits banner.
It then moved to Kent under the control of Fisher Sportscars, run by Mark Fisher, who was responsible for selling the vast majority of the hundreds built.
I’m not sure exactly how many, as I’ve lost count of the different engines that customers could use with a Fury kit – Various Fords, Rover V8, Rover K-Series and let’s not forget its key role in the kitcar industry’s late nineties superbike engine boom.
A stunning road car and a great racecar. All things to all people.

What I always notice is that it’s the sort of car that puts a smile on people’s faces. Those that own them LOVE them, those that once owned one – or more! – remember them with real fondness and loved them!
There’s a saying that basically says that the simplest ideas come from the cleverest minds or words to that effect. Clearly then, Mr Phillips is a very clever man as all the eighteen or so kitcars that he designed in his career share the same traits. All great.
I took the photos shown here in 1998, near Mark’s premises in Marden, Kent. Dunno about you, but that car still looks box fresh to me. A bit like the greatest pieces of music never sound dated, a Fury will always look great parked on your driveway, I suggest.

Mark’s long time assistant, all round good bloke, Steve Hughes, has owned the project for many years and I believe he can still sell you a brand new Fury kit, although sadly he keeps a low profile.
