Caterham Cars, has launched the first ever one-make race series in South America, in partnership with its Colombian dealership.

After delivering its first customer Seven last year, the Superlight R300 series further establishes Caterham’s position in the region. The fiercely-competitive Superlight R300 race series premiered on the 21^st and 22^nd August at Tocancipa Race Track, Colombia, and follows an ‘Arrive & Drive’ format, offering drivers the opportunity to race cars prepared and operated by Caterham Colombia.

As well as local racers, the Caterham Colombia Race series also offers international drivers the unique opportunity to race a Seven with the same arrangement.

The Superlight R300 series, Caterham’s flagship competition, was first launched in the UK in 2009 and is acclaimed for its close-fought racing. The series is aimed at young drivers aspiring to reach the pinnacle of motorsport and aims to discover a new Colombian racing star.

Caterham Colombia figureheads, Andres Vargas and Joaquin Caicedo, administer the series from its headquarters in the capital, Bogota.

Powered by a 2-litre, 180bhp engine and equipped with a Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox, the R300 is the fifth and ultimate level of Caterham’s motorsport ‘ladder’ and provides a significant step up in performance from the Supersport Series, while maintaining the durability and low running costs enjoyed in the lower-powered series.
