THE STATE OF BALANCE RESTORED

It’s really great to see the Stuart Mills-designed Sonic back in production. It first appeared in 2008 although after three years or so it transferred to the original, Gloucestershire-based Equilibrium Kit Cars, run by Angus Weijers.

Pressures of Angus’ main business meant that the model was put on the back burner until in 2022, Cambridge-based Michael Farrow took over, although retainedthe Equilbrium name.

The Sonic has a distinctive shape and I have always been one of Stuart’s most pleasing designs. Its original looks are still in evidence, but both Angus and particularly Michael have made some amendments.

The car features a tubular steel spaceframe chassis with double wishbone suspension and is still based on abundant and excellent Ford Focus donor parts.

Michael has used a CAD model to fully revise the kit from the ground up.

Judging by the response from showgoers at Malvern, the future appears very bright indeed. More on this one soon.
