SPACE SAVERS

The Princess-style brake caliper is a kitcar favourite. There are some companies producing upgraded versions including Hi Spec Motorsport

The standard Princess caliper is designed to use 245mm brake discs (or ‘rotors’ for our North American readers), which can cause dreaded ‘overlap’ issues with performance brake pads. I know I’m definitely not alone in experiencing this issue.

Rally Design has just launched a potential saviour of this issue with their 257mm discs available in plain face or performance cross-drilled and grooved. They are available now from £91.73 inc VAT per pair.

WHAT HAPPENED TO GOLD TOP?

Ford parts meisters, RETRO FORD has a new Zetec-flavoured product that will appeal to kitcar drivers of cars powered with either Zetec ‘Blacktop’ or ‘Silvertop’.

They have made available genuine – hitherto hen’s teeth – Zetec crankcase/oil separator kits. It will also fit the ST170 version and also includes a gasket, fasteners and a PCV valve.

Priced at £132.32 inc VAT available from www.retroford.co.uk or at the other end of 01536 204 823 ENDS.

SEATING SUPPORT

Lots of people could do with a bit more seating support in their cars.

Lack of lateral support is evident when compared to many daily drivers. not everyone can run to a seating update or don’t want to ruin the look of their car, especially if it’s a classic.

A new product called Bolster Boost could help. It is a removable device that claims to make fast driving more comfortable without compromising your car’s interior.

The makers call it ‘the instant racing seat’ although it won’t compare to a full-on race-type seat it does a more than acceptable job.

Slightly surprisingly you ‘wear’ Bolster More >

FASTENER PROTECTOR

When working on high-end, show-quality classic vehicles or automotive displays, the fit and finish of the fasteners is just as important as the paint and bodywork. For example, chrome-plated fasteners can be damaged easily, especially when using standard metal spanners and sockets. That’s why Laser Tools has introduced this specialist non-marring imperial (AF) Socket/Wrench Insert Set (part number 8468).

With top-class classic or show vehicles, fasteners can be plated, anodised, chemically passivated or even painted. Lots of care and attention have been put into building and preparing these vehicles, so extra care and attention is also required when working on them. More >

Welcome to totalkitcar online

A warm WELCOME to totalkitcar online … Really good to see Mika Sportscars’ Meon all-electric beach buggy starring in ‘first drives’ in this week’s Autocar magazine (18-25 September issue), describing Robin Hall’s creation as ‘A brilliantly British buggy’.

I had a drive of the car soon after it passed its IVA test and definitely think that it’s a sportscar masquerading in a beach buggy body. The Michelin Pilot Sport performance tyres kind of hint More >

The original inner bush in the track control arm is replaced with spherical joints, thus providing precise camber adjustment. This can be achieved without removal from the car making them quick and easy to adjust in the pits to suit the particular track layout and conditions.

The track control arms are supplied as a paired kit complete with more substantial 1/2in bolts and side spacers. The larger bolts will require the crossmember mounting hole to be More >
