GRANDMASTER DUTTON RETURNS

Great to see Tim Dutton back at a kitcar show selling ‘conventional’ kitcars again since he stopped as Dutton Cars some 36 years ago.

The interlude saw him building amphibious cars as most will be aware of but last weekend at the National Kit Car Motor Show at Malvern, Tim and his right-hand man Jack were debuting the new Phaeton 5, which is based on Mazda MX-5 Mk3.

Tim’s stand was very busy all weekend with many of the showgoers taking the chance to have a photo with a genuine kitcar industry legend, although Phaeton 5 is clearly no trip down sentimental lane. He is deadly serious and it is a deadly serious car and looks like doing well.

Kit prices have been set at £9450 + VAT, with just a few options available, other than the Mazda (which you should be able to secure for around £1000), which are weathergear at £440, side doors/windows at £390 and if you want a non-standard gelcoat colour (why wouldn’t you want the marvelous Lamborghini Verde Scandal of the demo car?!) it’ll be £240 extra.

Tim has also announced turnkey prices starting from £17,450 + VAT, with the same options although the IVA test will cost you £360.

Anyway, lookout for a feature on the exciting new Dutton Phaeton 5 in TKC MAG sooooooooooon.
