I did smile when I saw that bicycle brand Raleigh had re-launched their iconic Chopper. It’s been four years in development that has required some changes to meet modern standards. This mainly means a lowered rear roll-hoop and fitting modern brakes that do actually work unlike on the orange Mk1 I had in 1973 but look the same!

Otherwise, it is pretty much as was including its three-speed gear hub operated by a t-shifter handle. A variety of upgrades and spare parts are available some of which are compatible with the original Chopper.

Two launch colours are available – Infrared and Ultraviolet – and the bike costs £950 (a bit different to the 36 quid that my dad paid for mine! – Raleigh reported that the first batch sold out within days but you can register your interest now via www.raleigh.co.uk ENDS.
