Bob Teahan of the brilliant Machine Shop in Hinckley has been on to tell me about his welding lessons which are gaining real ground with people travelling for a socially distanced four hours of learning.

As a skilled welder, Bob is keen to pass on his knowledge and you don’t have to be a member of The Machine Shop to sign up for a welding or metal polishing lesson.

Bob: “We offer a range of four-hour one-on-one welding lessons to suit all needs. They’re super informal and great fun. We teach people what they want to learn by looking at your end goal and replicating it within the class to give you the best chance. Think of it as a welding boot camp,” he says.

Various lessons are available with a MIG how-to at £80 for hours, which is also the price for a steel and stainless TIG session. You can also learn to weld with a friend (£150), enjoy two levels of aluminium welding (basic and advanced) at £90 each, take part in an exhaust welding course at £130, with a Titanium welding course at £160 for four hours. Bob also runs workshops on welding rollcages, which could appeal to a good number of people. These cost £130 for four hours.

These are just the sort of skills that will help you building or repairing your bike or kitcar. Rather innovatively, he is also offering Welding Lesson Gift Vouchers, which are proving popular as Christmas presents.

Bring your own welding set and Bob will charge you just £70 for four hours tuition. That’s remarkable value. He’s keen to find out the sort of task, or tasks, that you would like to carry out and he’ll not only teach you he’ll even set the kit up to replicate your job.
