Castrol GTX, one of the world’s most well-known engine oils, celebrates fifty years of production this year.

The brand has been at the forefront of engine oil innovation since its introduction in 1968. Castrol GTX was initially created with liquid tungsten technology to meet the sophisticated needs of new engine developments. In those fifty years, over 50-billion litres (that’s a lot of oil!) have been sold worldwide.

The ‘liquid engineering’ TV adverts, amazingly dating back to 1983, are firm favourites of mine.

According to Castrol, today GTX protects over 100-million cars across the globe, at any one time and looking into the immediate future, the brand plans to focus on more innovations to help extend engine life.

The introduction of Castrol GTX Ultraclean is an example of how dedicated the company is to remain at the cutting edge of lubricant technology. Today’s challenging driving conditions can result in engine sludge which can potentially shorten engine life.

Formulated with synthetic technology, Castrol GTX Ultraclean has a double-action formula, which cleans away nasty old sludge and build-up, protecting against new sludge formation, for 50 per cent superior protection, according to Castrol.

Commenting on the notable anniversary, Vivek Pampal, global marketing director of Castrol, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating fifty years of Castrol GTX. The brand has been built on a promise to help extend engine life and that is something that we have been delivering for fifty years now.

“As we look to the future, innovation will remain at our core as we expand the Castrol GTX brand to help meet demands of today’s drivers and mechanics.
