Slim’s Detailing is one of my favourite outlets for car care stuff, with no fewer than 48 brands stocked including Britemax, Poorboy’s World, Menzerna, GTechniq and CarPro, while they are also main distributors for Chemical Guys, Presta, InstaFinish, Malco and Wolfgang.

Whenever I go to the US I spend far too much time in the many car care stores, which are my idea of a toy-shop. They do these types of retail outlets well in the States, but they aren’t so well-known here in the UK.

Well, Slim’s Detailing has a shop to rival the best American outlets and when I’m in the North London area I head for Slim’s base in Enfield for a look around and inevitably end-up coming out with a few bottles of brightly coloured elixirs and potions.

Slim’s Detailing is part of the Morelli Group started way back in 1957 by one Slim Moring, who began his motoring career working for Harold Radford Coachbuilders before going onto start his own crash repair business.

He’d always clean the paint with T-Cut and polish them to a fine, glossy finish but he was often frustrated at not being able to get the polishes and car parts he required when he wanted them. Frustrated, he set-up The Morelli Group so that ‘Your stock is at the end of a telephone’.

His customers could expect to get the service and products that others couldn’t supply easily and the company grew in size quickly. Today, the Moring family still owns the company and have fourteen branches around the UK.

Incidentally, the Morelli name is a conflation of Slim’s name ‘MORing and that of his partner; ELLIs and Slim’s Detailing was set up several years ago, in Slim’s honour, to service the professional detailer, DIY amateur and general enthusiast alike with all the car care stuff they desired.

They’ve been doing a pretty good job since and old Slim would definitely be very proud.
