AB Performance and Aries Motorsport were at Stoneleigh with a combined stand and what a stand it was too. It featured representations of their ranges including the Flying Vicar, Reverend Gary Gotham’s road-legal AB Arion (in Greek mythology, an immortal horse) and Aries Loco and Sabre.

AB Typhon – coolio

New on the stand was the AB Typhon (a giant and most deadly creature in Greek mythology), which uses the underpinnings of the full-bodied Arion and was shown in rolling chassis form. It represents the top of the shop as far as components and quality are concerned with power coming from the Ford EcoBoost range of engines.

With the bodies between the two cars totally interchangeable, a swap is possible within two hours according to AB Performance boss, Andy Bates. The Typhon is aimed squarely at the track although like the Arion it’s a fair bet that a few may find their way onto the public road and the car has been designed with IVA compliance in mind.

Stoneleigh also marked the debut, albeit in bodyshell form, of the new Escala, designed by famed Argentinian racecar designer, Enrique Scalabroni, who between 1985 and 2002 worked at various times for Dallara, Williams, Ferrari, Lotus and Peugeot Sport before he set-up his own F3000 team, BCN Competicion in 2003, which lasted until late 2008.

Scalabroni has been working with AB’s Andy Bates and Nick Sadler on various ideas, with the Escala the first fruits of the collaboration. Exciting times for AB and Aries.

This was finished at 2am on the eve of the show!
