Caterham Cars will celebrate 40 years of manufacturing and developing their iconic Seven with a free limited edition pack.

The stylish pack is available to the purchasers of the first 40 Seven orders taken from May 9 and can be applied to any car in the Seven range.

Caterham Cars has been building the Seven since 1973, when original owner, Graham Nearn, acquired the rights to the model from Colin Chapman. It has continually developed the sportscar but never deviated from Chapman’s original philosophy of “adding lightness” and placing the driving experience at the heart of the engineering process.

As a devotee – some would call it an addiction – of car detailing and products for conducting same, I am always on the look-out for quality waxes, polishes and cleaners.

I’m a big fan of the products produced by companies such as Zaino, Poor Boys, Chemical Guys, SmartWax and Britemax. A new addition to my collection of great products hail from Yorkshire-based company, Wax Tailor, and so far I’ve been knocked out by the quality of those I’ve tried. In typical, dour, Yorkshire fashion they do exactly what they say on the bottles. By ‘eck!

‘Design and Build A Kit Car’ is a fine new book from MEV’s Stuart Mills and is published by our friends at Complete Kit Car magazine.

Indeed, Stuart’s book has pipped my own Crowood Publishing title ‘Build Your Own Kit Car’ (ISBN: 978-1-84797-546-1) to the market although Mills’ fine effort also deals with the design intricacies, considerations and thought processes involved in creating a sportscar.

The 130-page book is well laid out and contains 13-chapters featuring subjects such as sourcing parts, chassis design, pattern and mould-making, finance, marketing and protecting your design.

Therefore, this is ideal if you fancy being the next Henry More >

I was fascinated by the services offered by one particular exhibitor at Stoneleigh recently as was the constant queue of people around their tent.

Carbon Fibre Magic is the name of the operation, based in Coventry and run by brothers, Owen and Dean Brooks and they offer a hydro-graphic (Google it!) print process on a variety of materials including metal, plastic, wood, GRP, glass and ceramics and although 800 different films are available, the company concentrate on those they feel are ideally suited to automotive use such as carbon-fibre-look mirror surrounds and trim parts. The only limit is your imagination.

Over the years the Lotus Seven has inspired many recreations of the style since its first arrival on the automotive scene some 50 years ago.

This iconic sportscar style has not aged and continues to attract increasing numbers of followers, admirers and owners, all with their own diverse individual applications from stripped down lightweight, track-orientated cars with datalogging to concours-winning show cars with full leather trim and sat nav, each application bringing its own specific requirements for competitive driving or enjoyable motoring.

One such requirement is weather gear.  While many manufacturers are able to offer soft top options, professionally designed and manufactured More >

I, like many others, have been successfully using the incredibly versatile product, Sugru, on jobs around the house.

Invented in 2003 by an Irish lady called, Jane ni Dhulchaointigh, and perfected with the help of a team of product designers and material scientists, the patented product resembles modelling clay when removed from its sachet. You can then form it by hand, as it goes ‘off’ in the hand, gently curing at room temperature in around 24-hours.

You end-up with a malleable, flexible repair that loves heat, cold and water. Try it for yourself as it’s available direct from Sugru or in a More >

Brakes matter on every racing circuit, but on the fabled Nürburgring – the most demanding track in the world – they become critical. British tuner Revolution Motorstore turned to Italian braking specialist Tarox to arrest the progress of its Subaru STI during the recent breaking of a long-standing lap record.

Revolution Motorsport turned to Tarox for the braking solution for their Nordschleife lap record attempt.

The record in question was an impressive 7 minutes and 55 seconds ‘full circuit’ time set by rally ace Tommi Mäkinen in an allegedly standard Subaru WRX STI in April 2010. Revolution’s beautifully-engineered riposte to this road-car More >

Another packed entry will start Torbay Motor Club’s Wiscombe Hill climb on Saturday 18th May, with over 120 cars and nearly 50 motorbikes filling yet another record entry for the club’s first speed event of 2013.
