BURTON POWER AND QUAIFE COLLABORATE ON ‘ENGLISH’ CRPWN WHEEL & PINION

The ‘English’ crown wheel & pinion was commonly found in classic rear-wheel-drive cars such as the Ford Anglia 105E, Escort Mk1/Mk2, Cortina, and various kitcars (of course!) as well as the classic Lotus Elan.

For owners requiring a replacement or seeking an alternative ratio, Burton Power now has the answer. Lower ratios (e.g., 3.54:1) offer a higher top speed and lower cruising RPMs for better fuel economy. Higher ratios (e.g., 4.125:1 to 5.29:1): deliver superior acceleration, making them ideal for rallying, sprinting, or hillclimbs.

Burton Power, in close collaboration with Quaife, has now sourced a manufacturer who is also an OEM supplier to many major brands and who uses the latest Gleason CNC machinery to ensure the highest quality standards.

This has enabled Burton to offer gear sets that are individually lapped together to ensure optimum meshing quality. After an exacting hardening process, the gears are finally treated to a manganese phosphate surface coating which forms a long-lasting anti-corrosion shield, which gives enhanced lubricity, and protects against abrasion.

Burton Power can supply replacement gear sets for all English axles including those on rarer models such as the Consul 315, Consul Capri, Corsair (and Corsair V4), Prefect 107E and Lotus Elan 1962-74.

Various ratios are available from 3.77:1 to 5.29:1. All sets retail at £300 each inc. VAT.
