SPAL FANS AT THE SUMMIT!

News this week from Summit Racing on Spal Fans.

All electric fan manufacturers rate their products by airflow in cubic feet per minute (CFM) at maximum fan speed. That rating is generated by running a fan in wide-open, zero-pressure air. That means you can compare fans by CFM and be pretty certain those airflow ratings are accurate.

But raw CFM isn’t the only consideration when choosing an electric fan. A better measure of fan efficiency is airflow through a restriction – a radiator, AC condenser, intercooler, etc. That’s where Spal goes the extra mile. They test their fans in an ISO-certified airflow chamber and measure the actual amount of air in CFM they pull through those real-world restrictions.

Summit Racing includes those charts with each Spal Brushless Plus Electric Fan in stock – just scroll through the images for the fan of your choice to access its chart. Spal says static pressure of .04- to .06-inch H2O represents a typical two-row radiator.

Spal Brushless Plus Electric Fans have plenty of other features that make them a better choice for your cooling system:

Brushless Motors

Instead of using a mechanical system with brushes to transfer current, brushless motors use digitally-controlled electronics to control current. That makes brushless motors more powerful and efficient. For example, a 12-inch fan with a brushless motor will use less amperage to generate the same airflow rate as the same size fan with a brushed motor. And with no brushes to wear down, brushless motors are more reliable and live longer.

Soft Start Technology

Spal’s brushless motor design allows the fan to ramp up to speed instead of immediately going to full power. This eliminates the big power draw brushed motors have at fan startup.

Variable Speed Operation

Spal fans can take a signal from an ECU, PDM pulse-width modulation controller, or analog voltage inputs, allowing you to control fan speeds based on exact coolant temperatures rather than a simple on/off switch.

Patented Sine Wave Technology

Spal’s brushless motors generate a smooth ‘sine wave’ alternating current for quiet and vibration-free operation.

Waterproof and Dust-Proof

All Spal brushless fans are IP6K9K certified for use in extreme water and dust conditions.

Summit Racing carries Spal Brushless Electric Fans in sizes ranging from 11 to 16 inches in diameter in several CFM ratings. We also have variable temperature control sensors and jumper-style fan wiring harnesses for a nice, clean installation. Spal’s Tom Longo gets into more detail on fan selection in this Summit Racing video.
