If you’ve owned a kitcar for some time, particualry back in the ‘good’ old days, then you will almost definitely have been left stranded by the side of a road at least once. May I also suggest that it might have also been dark and/or rainy?
Depending on the weather, the time of day and the location it can be absolutely terrifying. Inevitably, dodgy electrics could well have been the reason for the mechanical and nervous breakdowns! You stand there willing the brakdwon service to turn up…
Anyway, god forbid it doesn’t happen to you again, but just in case, this new device from Roadflash might make it less painful or at least make sure you can be found.

I remember once occasion when I was on a busy road and managed to get my GTM Spyder off the road almost obscured by a hedge, for safety sake. However, because it was so dark, the man from Green Flag couldn’t find me and was of the opinion that I must have been a hoax caller.
I wasn’t. I was a soaking wet caller by the time he finally spotted me, though. Anyway, the Roadflash is an 11cm x 11cm, star-shaped emergency light that you can stick on the back of your car either using the suction cup supplied or on the back of the car.
The maker’s claim that it can be seen from up to 500 metres away and the nine blinking lights (you can programme the sequence of them) is easy to spot. One setting will give the impression of being a mobile disco, while depending on the setting you select, battery life is between nine to fifty hours.
The near 40 quid price tag might make you blink but it is a well-made device with a thick, heavy-duty plastic case and solid rubber ‘bumpers’ that will protect it.
Indded the product won an innovation award in 2025, while the company produces several road safety devices.
