Stock head gaskets simply can’t handle the considerably higher cylinder pressures generated by increased compression ratios or the boost that superchargers and turbos pump into the cylinders of performance engines. That’s why people in the know use SCE MLS Spartan Head Gaskets.
SCE’s MLS Spartan gaskets from Summit Racing are proven to keep combustion in the cylinder where it belongs. Their advanced design starts with three to five layers (depending on application) of 300F stainless steel gasket plates.

Each plate features embossed apertures around the combustion chamber/cylinder bore interface, coolant passages, and oil passages. Combined with a proprietary fluid sealant coating to the inner and outer gasket plates, these apertures provide a continuous, unbroken surface for a superior seal. An inner spacer keeps the gaskets from compressing too far and interrupting the seal as the heads are torqued to the block.
For certain applications, SCE also offers ‘GS’ (Gas Stopper) series MLS Spartan head gaskets. These gaskets have a portion of the centre plate folded back on top of itself to double its thickness. That distributes more clamp load at the combustion seal area around the bore, which is critical on engines that only have four mounting bolts per cylinder.
