New from Gil at Better Car Lighting is this new ambient lighting kits.
“I have put together a DIY kit with early cars in mind. Even cars like the XK120 and early big Healeys can now easily have an interior light system which comes on when they open a door, even though they have no door switches.”
What is ambient lighting?

Car interiors can be dark and spartan spaces. Much research, going all the way back to the Second World War, has shown that having low levels of light, preferably in a colour which avoids affecting night vision, can make the inside of any vehicle feel more comfortable or even luxurious.
It has also shown that it also makes drivers (or pilots) less tired, especially on long night journeys. In recent years, most car manufacturers have made use of this knowledge to make their more expensive offerings attractive
Why fit it to classic or kit cars?
A well-designed lighting upgrade like this will greatly improve the driving experience in any car. It will be invisible, can be turned off and is not difficult to install. It will transform the night driving experience, and can even make dull days seem brighter

How does it work?
When you open the car door, the lighting will come on at full power. It will go off when you
get in and close the door and then come on at a low level of brightness when you turn on the ignition.
For cars with no door-switched interior light circuit, there is a sensor version to add one without the need to drill holes or run wiring into the car doors. There is a manual switch to turn full power on while the car is being driven, in case something is dropped
