It’s rare that a component part reaches the dizzying heights of cult appeal, but that’s precisely what’s become of Forge Motorsport’s most popular blow-off valve, the FMDVRAY. Clearly unhappy to rest on its laurels, Forge has today taken the wraps off a new and improved variant of the FMDVRAY, the suitably named FMDVRAYV2, a 50mm Blow-Off Valve (BOV) which exhibits many of the latest advances in blow-off valve technology and thinking, and one intended for serious, high power tuner applications.

FMDVRAYV2 mates up to custom turbo installations, with the supplied aluminium weld-on coupler and clamp. This arrangement means that physically installing it is a more involved process than with other, more traditionally mounted Forge offerings and that doing so will require a TIG welder of some description. The good news is that this design has been developed with custom, one-off turbo setups in mind, the supplied clamping adaptor screwing onto the body of the BOV and allowing integration with existing clamps (60mm external diameter) such as those found on popular aftermarket valves, including Tial’s offerings.

Another example of the FMDVRAYV2 BOV’s sheer capability is its large displacement (the most capacious Forge currently offers), not to mention its 50mm aluminium piston, a far more capable design than the diaphragm type favoured by many of Forge’s competitors. Diaphragm-type BOVs have been shown to split and fail with age and increased boost pressures, rendering them a weak link – not something anyone seeking a tuned, big-power turbocharged engine wants! The aluminium piston at the heart of the FMDVRAYV2 has been designed to be both durable and ultra-responsive, further underscoring its suitability for high-performance applications.

Forge understands that appearance plays second fiddle to outright capability when it comes to a component like the FMDVRAYV2 BOV, but this hasn’t prevented the Gloucestershire company from investing considerable resources into the overall ‘look’ of their latest offering. The valve can, therefore, be ordered in a choice of finishes, both of which are hard-wearing and attractive – anodised black or anodised purple.

Last but by no means least, FMDVRAYV2 has been designed with longevity in mind, hence why it can be stripped, serviced and rebuilt within minutes, despite the need to do so having been dramatically curtailed thanks to the BOV’s increased time between service intervals. It’s also backed up by Forge’s unique, industry-leading lifetime warranty.

The valve is priced at £191.99 inc VAT and is available now via www.forgemotorsport.co.uk ENDS.
