A warm welcome to totalkitcar online … some welcome news of a ‘historic’ kitcar nature from the DVLA.

Owners of rebodied and ‘complete knock down’ kitcars are now able to retain their VIN numbers and register their cars as historic vehicles after the DVLA announced some policy revisions in August.
This was after similar concessions were given to restored and EV-converted cars last year.
DVLA has announced a new ‘reconstructed classics’ category that means that cars with appropriate historic major components are eligible for historic registration plates.
Even cars that have been rebodied with no historic parts or ‘specials’ certified as ‘authentic’ by a recognised club can be issued with an age-related plate and an MoT once inspected. it can also then be made MoT-exempt and not be subject to road tax classed as a ‘historic vehicle’.

IF YOU LIKE CLASSIC KIT CARS & SPECIALS you are in luck. Clicking that button will take you back in time with features on old kitcars, personalities and generally interesting companies who worked within the specialist car and sixties motorsport movements. I really hope you are enjoying them. Not all of them are kitcar-related per se but they all celebrate the underdog and often feature the wonderful world of sixties motorsport.

Classic Kit Cars & Specials has a new home at totalkitcar.com.
A lot of classic clubman motorsport features highlight underdog artisans that we hope will appeal to you dear reader, the sort of companies that we’ve often all heard of but on whom detailed information is often hard to find. Shorrock, Wade Turbochargers, Jack Knight Developments, Cannon Cars, Tom Killeen, David Ogle the list goes on and on. The sort of companies and individuals that our specialist and kitcar forebears from the sixties would have been very familiar with. You’ll find these subjects featured in CLASSIC KIT CARS & SPECIALS.
This week in CLASSIC KIT CARS & SPECIALS we focus in on a well-known eighties kitcar manufacturer called Birchall Automotive who produced the delightful little Classic Mini-based McCoy. The company was run by ex-Team Lotus mechanic Arthur Birchall. CLICK HERE to go there.

WANT TO SELL YOUR DUTTON AMPHIB?

If you want to sell your Dutton amphib Dutton Cars can hold it securely in their factory so it is available to sell on your behalf on a commission basis.
Tim takes up the story: “We will advertise your Dutton – free of charge – on our web and Facebook pages. This will save you the considerable time and inconvenience of having to take potential purchasers out on a water and road test.
“We will demonstrate your car on the water and on the road using our Trade Plates so you don’t even need to keep it taxed (SORN) or insured. Only if and when your agreed price is paid will we release the car deducting our 10 per cent commission. It’s that simple!
“You can deliver your Dutton to the factory by road or if you are feeling brave the English Channel (using our factory slipway at 50° 47′.84N 00° 32′.33W Tides +0015 Dover, ML2.8: Zone 0 (UT) or we can collect on a trailer.”
WANT TO BUY A DUTTON AMPHIB?

Similarly, if you If you are in the market to buy a Dutton amphib, once again Tim cn help.
“Take the hassle and guesswork out of it. Every car on our new web page will have had its numbers checked (engine, VIN etc) against our original documents still held in the factory going back to 1993.
“Unfortunately when some people sell their Dutton they refer to it as a ‘factory built’ car when it was actually only sold in kit-form. This incorrect description falsely increases its value. We always check this and clearly state on the description whether it was originally supplied as a ‘kit’ or was ‘factory built’ prior to placing the advert on our new ‘Cars for Sale’ page.
“Purchased cars can be delivered/exported if required. PLEASE NOTE our ‘Cars for Sale page on our web site is now live.”
