GOODS & SUPPLIERS is ACTIVE AGAIN. It’s certainly less wieldy, is easier to use and well, see what you think. It’s not yet complete by any means but is a workable and useful A-Z listing that I hope you enjoy using and check back regularly because I will be adding to it weekly, almost.

IF YOU LIKE CLASSIC KIT CARS & SPECIALS you are in luck. Clicking that button will take you back in time with features on old kitcars, personalities and generally interesting companies who worked within the specialist car and sixties motorsport movements. I really hope you are enjoying them. Not all of them are kitcar-related per se but they all celebrate the underdog and often feature the wonderful world of sixties motorsport.

Classic Kit Cars & Specials has a new home at totalkitcar.com.

A lot of classic clubman motorsport features highlight underdog artisans that we hope will appeal to you, dear reader, the sort of companies that we’ve often all heard of but on whom detailed information is often hard to find. Shorrock, Wade Turbochargers, Jack Knight Developments, Cannon Cars, Tom Killeen, David Ogle—the list goes on and on. The sort of companies and individuals that our specialist and kitcar forebears from the sixties would have been very familiar with. You’ll find these subjects featured in CLASSIC KIT CARS & SPECIALS.

This week in CLASSIC KIT CARS & SPECIALS, we look at a criminally underrated genius called Ken Nichols, a purveyor of chassis and suspension know-how in the sixties. If your car featured Ken’s parts and handiwork, it was virtually guaranteed to work and perform better. Lots of Lotus owners used his services, while he also produced his own accomplished racing cars under the NIKE brand. CLICK HERE to go there.

SNIPPETS 1 ……..Three interesting specialist cars have come to my attention this week and coincidentally all of them are from France.

First is is Legende Automobiles and their SixTen, which to my eyes looks very similar to a classic Porsche 910 although the Lotus Exige S1 donor might raise eyebrows and it also uses that car’s interior, too and windscreen plus gullwing doors.

Legende SixTen

Two versions have been announced. EUROSPEC which uses the 400bhp Supercharged Toyota V6 engine as used by Lotus and a WORLDSPEC version, which interestingly features an air-cooled flat six unit, the origins of which haven’t been announced but must surely be classic Porsche 911 derived.

The company also show a model called Turbo3 on their website, which, as the name suggests, is their take on the classic Renault 5 Turbo2 model.

Prices and further details are yet to be announced. More from www.legendeautobiles.com.

Next are two quirky little electric bolides that if you told me had come from UK kitcar manufacturers I’d snap your hand off. Sadly, they are fully built only but they are dead interesting, hence the coverage here.

I’ll start with the Kilow which starts at €10,800 powered by a 48-volt battery pack and two 6.5kW brushless motors. A diminutive little utility weighing just 357kg range is about 70km for the entry-level model but can be driven in France by 16 year olds. Several versions are available starting with the Bagnole that is limited to 28mph while the Bagnole Grand from €13,690, has a range of up to 164km and can do 50mph comparable to the likes of an electric Moke

KILOW BAGNOLE

A variety of options are available, and all twelve colours cost of #290, with special colours at €490. Items like doors are an option at €1500, a sportier flat-bottom steering wheel at €69 and even a tent-style roof at €800. Visit www.kilow.com.

Similar in concept is the iPop (the iPop45 two-seater from €11,000 and the iPop80 four-seater  from €15,000 – the numbers denote top speeds in kph) with the body a mix of rayon fabric and resin. Five colours are available.

Like the Kilow, there are a host of accessories available, including four-wheel-drive for the ‘80’. More from www.ipopautomobiles.com. IPops will be built by four-wheel-drive conversion specialists Dangel in Sentheim, Alsace.

IPOP 80

SNIPPETS 2 ……. A bit of a show theme this week and the RACE RETRO organisers are in full swing for 2027’s show which takes place at Stoneleigh on February 19-21.

I found their very buoyant press release this week to be infectious.

It’s barely October and we already have 80 exhibitors signed up and more signing up daily, for Race Retro 2027. Either this is a very good show, or an awful lot of people want to sell you things. Happily, it’s both.

Three days at Stoneleigh Park, 19-21 February: Group B legends flat out on the live rally stage, hundreds of racing cars and free parking!

It’s the best possible cure for February.

The Race Ready Hall is where you start doing, with everything you need for your race season:

Race licence and medical? Sorted.

Race series to join? Equipe Classic Racing and the Classic Sports Car Club will happily take your Saturdays.

Helmet and race gear? Lille Racewear, Iconic Racer Gear and Race Rally Supplies (Arai and Bell, no less) will have you looking the part before you’ve turned a wheel.

Need to learn to go quickly without hitting anything? Learn 2 Race is on hand.

Then it’s Brian James Trailers to get the thing there, and Southern Car Storage to keep it warm and dry between rounds.

Walk in on Friday with a dream. Walk out on Sunday with a plan, a suit and a lighter wallet.
