LASER TESTER

Battery powered, this handy three-in-one multi-function tester from Laser Tools (part number 6378) is a tyre pressure gauge as well as a main battery and alternator tester. A bright LED work light is also included.

Very easy to use, the tyre pressure gauge function is useful as it lets you record the pressure of each individual tyre, while it’s also very easy to check the power of your car’s main battery; simply plug into the 12-volt socket, turn on the ignition and the tester displays the battery voltage and status (low, mid or full). Switch to alternator test mode, switch on More >

BAYERN MUNICH

The popular Wolfrace Eurosport design ‘Munich’ gets three new paint finishes. Wolfram Eurosport Munich is available now in new satin black with polished face and undercut, gloss black with white face, and full satin black with polished undercut in size 8.5in x18in and 8.5in x 20in.

The two undercut Munichs – satin black/polished face and undercut and full satin black with polished undercut are two of the first wheels in the Wolfrace range to feature ‘undercut’ technology – an aesthetic feature where a secondary ‘inner rim’ is polished to create an eye catching contrast against the black paint.

NO, REALLY THESE ARE PRETTY GOOD

If you are old enough to remember 1985 – the last year that the original Gulf Oil Corporation existed as an independent company – the name ‘Gulf’ will conjure up images of incredible Le Mans cars such as Porsches, Ford GT-40s and Aston Martins in their stunning pale blue and orange liveries.

Now Gulf is back! You’ve probably noticed petrol stations being re-branded with the Gulf corporate identity and there’s a lot more to come according to the company.

Take for instance these brand new Gulf wheel trims. For years plastic wheel trims were seen as a cheap alternative to more expensive More >

EXCLUSIVE – FIRST DRIVE RPS RPX

EXCLUSIVE – Regular readers know that we’ll be building an RPS RPX as a magazine project car this year and we have also tested the company’s demonstrator at a rainy Cadwell Park circuit.

Having exclusive use of the iconic Lincolnshire track was a luxury and the MG TF-based body conversion behaved impeccably. Mechanically the car is pretty much standard TF 160-spec although RPS has added an ITG Maxogen air filter system, which frees up a bit more power.

I also enjoyed putting the car through its paces on the flowing roads around the circuit. It always nice to get a FIRST DRIVE, especially More >

NOT AN ENIGMA – IT’S CLEARLY VERY GOOD!

Healey Designs is doing very nicely with their Enigma range and the Mazda MX-5-based kit is now produced in a factory in Latvia.

The four-cylinder version is now based around Mazda MX-5 Mk3 mechanicals while the new V8 example uses a Lexus V8 and raises to power to a conservative 280bhp.

The customer has several other choices to make such as how they want their fully built Enigma. Let me explain. You can choose from all-new components (gets a current ‘16’ registration) from £33,000, remanufactured parts from £28,900 or refurbished parts from £24,500.

A fully built V8 using all-new parts costs from £35,800, More >

BURTON POWER GEARBOX MOUNT

The Type 9 (aka ‘Type N’ gearbox in some workshop manuals) was Ford’s first rear wheel drive, five-speed gearbox. It was based on the four-speed Type E and features a cast iron main case with alloy tail housing.

This gearbox is the most commonly used for five-speed conversions on older vehicles, not just for classic Fords but for other classic makes such as MG and Triumph as well as thousands of kitcars, of course.

A four-wheel drive version of this ‘box was also available and was fitted in early XR4x4 and Granada Mk3 models. With original parts for classic Fords becoming harder More >
