Hot on the heels of the already popular Mac Tools AR38RP 3/8in air impact ratchet released in May 2012 comes a new ¼in version.

When undoing parts in restricted space using a standard air ratchet, the mechanic runs the risk of receiving a shock to the wrist due to the sudden increase in torque when the fastener loosens or tightens down. This sudden increase in torque can also cause the knuckles to be thrown into the nearest solid object and is responsible for a number of workshop injuries.

Like its larger sibling, the ¼in AR14RP mini-impact ratchet aims to reduce these injuries. This model shares the same reaction-free impact assembly as the AR38RP, which incorporates a single ‘dog’ clutch ahead of the ratchet assembly. This design prevents the shock being transmitted to the hand.

Weighing 0.6kg, and delivering 50lb/ft torque with a 500rpm free-speed, the AR14RP is manoeuvrable enough to reach fasteners in the majority of limited-access situations. An air regulator and throttle lever are included; both of which are housed in the comfort-grip handle which is designed to make operation as smooth and as comfortable as possible. Average air consumption is 2 CFM.

Mark Hallum, UK marketing manager for Mac Tools, said: “The 3/8in air impact ratchet has been phenomenally successful in the short time since its launch and the pressure from our distributors to provide a ¼in version has been overwhelming. At Mac Tools we place huge importance on listening to customer feedback and we have worked very hard to produce this additional ratchet to meet the demand.” List price is expected to be £248.62 inc VAT.
