HR Engineering launched their Glamis Pro Truck kit at last weekend’s Detling show and the Saffron Walden-based tuning and engineering specialists, run by Harvey Rice, was very pleased with the reception.

Two versions of the Glamis are available – a rally raid version based on a spaceframe chassis and a more affordable IVA-exempt body conversion that uses un-modified Land Rover Discovery chassis and can feasibly be DIY-built for as little as £8000.

The spaceframe/rollcage package that is pre-fitted to your Discovery rolling chassis comes in at £2400, with the body kit at £1650. To this you need to add the GRP doors at £195, rear bootlid at £485 and the rear spoiler at £190.

The Glamis was originally developed for the Middle East market as a promotional vehicle for a motorsport complex in the desert. This didn’t come to fruition ultimately and the promising stillborn project was acquired by Harvey Rice who has re-developed the original version for more straightforward road and off-road use including the introduction of Volkswagen 1.9-litre 130bhp Pümpe Düse diesel engine mated to a modified Audi five-speed Quattro gearbox and Toyota rear diff.

Meanwhile, the body conversion kit uses the engine that came free with your Discovery donor…
