Popa Chubby – The Fight Is On
Since 1990, Ted Horowitz has produced around 13 albums, the majority of which have been of the fierce, burning blues vatroiety, excepting the hip-hop and punk-country interludes.
Horowitz is better known as Popa Chubby, and the New York City bad boy’s new album ‘The Fight Is On’ is arguably, one of his best, up there with his ‘Booty and the Beast’ and ‘Electric Chubby Land’ sets.
The boxing-inspired opening track ‘The Fight Is On’ sets the tone for the album, a real detuned, Zep-inspired rocker, is followed by the anthemia ‘We Got Some Rocking To Do’, while the power balled ‘Locked In To Memory’ has a searing guitar solo.
Chubby visits hip-hop territory with ‘NYC 1977, which has Lou Reed ‘Walk on the Wide Side’ influences; ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll is my Religion’ proclaims the faith, while the knockout blow comes with album closing live track, a cover of the Motorhead classic ‘Ace of Spades’. A hard-hitting ending to a hard-hitting album.
