At first thought you might think, like I did, that we really don’t need any more books on TVR, the iconic Blackpool marque, who sadly faded away a couple of years ago.
Well, this book from Russell Hayes, actually makes a pretty good case for itself, telling the soap-opera-like story, with tales of the extrovert characters, the ups and the many downs. The old cliché ‘snatching defeat from the jaws of victory’ could almost have been coined for TVR.
Although owned by several men over the years, TVR always embodied whichever owner’s vision, drive and determination from TreVoR Wilkinson’s original Tuscan to Peter Wheeler’s Sagaris. Quintessentially British, powered by a succession of ever-increasing engines, this is the Blackpool company’s fascinating story; warts and all.
The last interview with the late, Trevor Wilkinson is a good addition and Hayes does an excellent job of giving the reader yet more, highly entertaining information bringing the story right up-to-date detailing Russian Alexei Smolensky’s brief tenure in charge of this enduring and endearing British marque.
