Tempting entry-level model from Westfield Sportscars

Star Motor Company is the re-named motor division of…….Tifosi Devon, who launched their all-new Rana RS model at last weekend’s Exeter show and it’s basically a lean and mean, track-orientated version of their standard Rana model, with several key differences, most notably of which is the use of a superb spaceframe chassis underpinning the car rather than a body conversion on a Sprite and it also has the addition of 5in into the shell.

The initial base model will be available as a ‘turnkey-minus’ less engine and gearbox at a cost of £15,000 inc VAT, leaving the customer to source their own engine, and with most inline fours and V6s accommodated, the choice will be varied. Suggested powerplants are Zetec E and Duratec V6…

It will be being displayed alongside the existing models in its roadgoing form but there is also a lightweight trackday/motorsport version being built, complete with aerodynamic undertray. This will be exhibited on the The Handbuilt British Sports Car Pavillion sponsored by tkc mag at Pistonheads Show, NEC, January 8-11 2009.

Star Motor Company launched their Rana RS at Exeter

Kellforms Woodmasters are working with ace racecar engineer, Gary Gunn, once again on their all-new Retoga RT.

Gunn, who runs his own Loaded Gunn operation has had much motorsport success over the years particularly within the Sports 2000 sector. In 2005 they teamed up to produce the superb Retoga, which was aimed at the track where Kellforms boss, Kevin Goater, has just had another successful season in the 750MC Bikesport Championship.

The RT is however aimed at road and trackday use, and is based on Ford Focus donor, utilising more of Gunn’s artisan chassis and engineering work, while there are areas of the RT that features real innovation such as the internal tub that locates seats and acts a floorpan, looking neat and more importantly, saving weight.

Kellforms launched their new RT model at Exeter last weekend. It was shown in rolling chassis form, and is another collaboration with ace racecar designer, Gary Gunn.

Kellforms displayed the rolling chassis at Exeter last weekend with a scale model of the proposed body shape, again indicative of Kellforms ‘day-job’ as masters of automotive development and prototyping.

The RT has an intended kit price of around £8000 for a complete package, with fully built examples starting around the £16,000.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this one develops, as I’m a fan of the original Retoga and also of Gunn’s craftsmanship.

Current engine used as standard fit in a variety of GM vehicles including Chevy SSR, Trailblazer SS, Pontiac GTO and Corvette. The LS2 succeeded the LS1 and built on that engine’s plus points sharing many similarities with it. The main subtle differences being the movement of the crankcase vent to the top of the valley, re-located knock sensors and moving the cam sensor to the front of the engine.

LS2 cylinders heads are as per LS6 while the crate engine also comes with composite intake manifold, electronically-controlled 90mm throttle body, fuel rail with injectors, balancer exhaust manifolds, water pump, Corvette-spec sump and a 14in flexplate if an automatic transmission is to be fitted.

LS3 Crate Engine – 430bhp/424lb/ft torque £4670.63 inc VAT

The all-new 6.2-litre LS3 takes the standards set by the LS1 and LS2 and enhances them further, while it ‘borrows’ rectangular ports from the vaunted LS7. The revised cylinder heads feature 63cc combustion chambers 2.16in intake valves and 1.59in exhaust valves. The engine spins freely and redlines at 6600rpm.

Parts World Performance also has a 480bhp version available, too.
