Roadhouse – Sea of Souls
This is London-based blues band, Roadhouse’s, tenth album, and the band were formed by vocalist/guitarist, Gary Boner in 1991, backed ever since by the powerful engine room of Bill Hobley (bass) and Roger Hunt (drums).
Hard to pinpoint their sound, although for those that must pigeonhole, try credence meets Skynyrd, on the rocky edge of blues.
Since 1991 they’ve played over 1500 gigs, and had a regular stream of lead guitarists and female vocalists indeed, since 2006’s excellent ‘Broken Land’ they’ve changed to the rockier edged Danny Gwilym on lead guitar, while Fiona McIroy has been replaced by Kelly Marie Hobbs on vocals who joins, Suzie Dingle and Mandie G.
‘Sea of Souls’ keeps up the previous high standard in the main and in the eponymous title track and ‘The Answer’ there are two songs as good as anything they’ve done in the past, while a cover of The Animals ‘House of the Rising Sun’ is also a fine effort.
