Airbourne – Runnin’ Wild – Roadrunner Records
If you like a bit of Australian bands, AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and The Angels, then you’re going to love fellow Aussies, Airbourne.
They are a genuine fist-pumping, beer-slinging rock and roll band, who revisit the anthemic antipodeans’ boogie sounds of the seventies and eighties, back to a time when the best music was loud, fierce and hook-laden.
Formed by two brothers – much like AC/DC – Joel (vocals, lead guitar) and Ryan O’Keeffe (drums) they were influenced by the likes of Van Halen and Mötorhead in addition to the three Oz-rock legends mentioned earlier.
They come from a small town called, Warrnambool, where the local pastimes are footstall and drinking beer. The formative years for young Joel were spent listening to classic rock albums, nicked from his uncle, and his love for what he calls ‘straight-ahead Aussie pub rock’ was formed.
The band, completed by David Roads (guitar) and Justin Street (bass) make loud, proud rock music, with ‘crunchy’ guitars, big choruses, and a driving, pounding rhythm.
All eleven tracks on the album are crackers, from the opening ‘Runnin’ Wild’ to ‘Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast’ to the outstanding ‘Heartbreaker’, this is an album that will NOT disappoint, specially for old gits like me! A cranked-up listen to this album, really pepped up my day. A winner.
