Extreme Engines, run by Karl Bradshaw………are best-known for their superb range of bike engines, many of which have found their way into kitcars over the years. They do particularly fiendish packages and upgrades for the Suzuki Hayabusa.

I recently drove a Blaze GT with one of their ‘busas, and it produced a naughty 193bhp at the back wheels!

Before founding Extreme, Karl worked at Radical Sportscars, and so his latest venture should come as no real surprise. He has come up with a revised bodyshell for the Radical Clubsport and Prosport, of which there are many around, some of which are mechanically strong, but a bit shaggy around the edges. This can all be rectified with Extreme’s new offering, which costs just £2000.

The first such re-bodied car is being campaigned in the 750 Motor Club’s Bikesport series and not only does the thing look the dog’s proverbials, it’s also proving to be quicker, too!

More on this one at the other end of 01778 420 222. Their website at www.extremeengines.com is undergoing a revamp. ENDS.

Stand number 39d……………has been reserved for Historic Specials and Classic Kit Cars built before 1973 at the National Kit Car Motor Show, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on May 4/5. Organiser of the stand, Tony Stanton, owner of a 1963 Rochdale Olympic, intends to fill the stand with 1950s/1960s specials such as ROCHDALE, FAIRTHORPE, TORNADO, ASHLEY, FALCON and any one-off specials and other early kitcars like TURNER, TVR, LOTUS, MARCOS, ELVA, TRIDENT, PIPER, GILBERN, DAVRIAN, the idea being to show current kitcar owners how the industry first started in the 1950s and 1960s.

All specials and kitcar drivers are admitted free of charge, so if you have a pre-1973 kitcar or special, which you would like to be included on the stand then please contact Tony on 01527 402 367 or via E-mail or just turn up on the day.

I reckon this is a great idea, especially as someone who cut his kitcar-teeth on a magazine called ‘Kit Cars & SPECIALS’ and I’d heartily recommend a visit to Rob Daniels’ excellent site www.1950sspecials.com ENDS.

The CG-Lock® device was invented for the track……….for performance drivers wanting the benefits of a racing harness but none of the hassle. Now, new evidence suggests that this device can also lead to significantly less spinal compression.

Vehcile accidents are among the biggest causes of serious injury and mortality for military personnel when in challenging environments such as Iraq and Afghanistan. The injuries are most often from spinal compression and/or head and neck trauma. The Armed Forces often drive large military vehicles at speed across rough terrain.

A very different setting, but trackday drivers are also exposed to high G-forces on the body when driving on undulating circuits. A large number of vehicle accidents result from being out-of-control due to the lack of immediate feedback from the vehicle-to-driver and ergonomic difficulties steering and braking at speed.

A simulation of the forces acting rapidly on the human spine while driving an off-road vehicle or performance car was devised using a servo hydraulic actuator to rapidly displace a 45.5kg weight, vertically. The force was applied through a stiff spring damper system to simulate vehicle suspension and vehicle springing.

A standard automotive three-point type inertia seatbelt was used to restrain the weight in the control (baseline) test series, which were repeated identically with a commerically available ‘occupant stability’ device (the CG-Lock®) attached to the seatbelt.

Results suggest that off-road, and on trackday, driving in a standard seatbelt can lead to peak spinal loads in order of 2½ times body weight during upward accelerations amd significant weight reduction (half body weight) as the seat descends. These forces indicate significantly reduced control of the vehicle over rough terrain and on-track.

Use of the CG-Lock® device reduced peak spinal loads to 1¾ times body weight – a 30% reduction – and maintained 90% of body weight during the descent phase. Real life spinal forces are calculated to be more than double those tested in this study…

We at totalkitcar have been using the CG-Lock® device for around four years now and particularly notice the difference while on circuit during ‘spirited’ driving…

Put Your Foot Down with Dad This Father’s Day…….Give your Dad a Father’s Day gift to remember by spending the day burning rubber sideways in a Caterham Seven.

The one-day Caterham Driving Experience (CDX) courses, starting from only £99, will put Dad behind the wheel of the legendary Caterham Seven where he’ll be taught how to push the legendary sportscar to its limits in a relaxed and safe environment.

CDX days aren’t just for wannabe racers, they appeal to anybody with a driving licence and a sense of fun! What could be better than thrashing somebody else’s sportscar for the day with no guilty conscience?

The Caterham Seven is widely regarded as one of the purest driving experiences available. Stripped to the very basics, these lightweight two-seaters offer unparalleled driver feedback with none of the boring electronics that dull the sensation of most modern supercars – just you and the road.

With traction control now banned from F1, the rear-wheel smoking antics of drivers like Lewis Hamilton can be emulated in the Seven by tackling a tricky Slalom or Drift course. Participants will be taught to use the rear wheels to steer, powersliding through the assembled bends and learning tricks like doing a doughnut.

See the slightly obscured young lady in the baseball cap (Sam) ? Yep, she's very helpful and all that, BUT she can drive a Caterham Seven like a deity.

Concluding the day’s excitement, these news skills will be put to the test around a timed course to provide friendly competition among participants on the day. Once the tyre smoke settles on what will be a memorable day, your Dad will be left with a certificate, new skills and possibly a trophy but certainly a broad smile across his face.

It’s not just your father who’ll be free to scare himself, or surprise all with his driving prowess, share in this unforgettable experience together and let the friendly rivalry commence.

Caterham Driving Experience days run throughout the year, and venues include Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Castle Combe, Elvington, Oulton Park and Silverstone.

To experience the addictive charm of a Caterham, vouchers are available from £99 to £399 – there is a gift to suit everybody’s needs. You can purchase vouchers by calling 01883 333 700 or by visiting the online stores section of www.caterham.co.uk ENDS.

I do believe that could be our Nat driving that Caterham on one of the company's great driving days.

Prolong. A Revolution For The Rotary………….the Mazda RX8, in just five short years has gained a notable reputation - and so has its thirst for oil! Owners of the fine sports Coupé have now become quite used to filling up their oil along with their petrol, but oil wizards Prolong, may just have the answer to their prayers.

The Berkshire-based company has spent many months testing a unique blend of their surface modifying lubricant, especially for the RX8 and its other rotary engined-brethren. The new oil’s protective properties not only reduce the Mazda’s prodigious thirst, but also help to protect the rotor tips, should a careless owner forget to check their oil and let levels drop.

Prolong UK’s Product Development Manager, Mike Purchase, explained the reasoning behind the new product: “This is a well-known problem in the motor industry - and one that all rotary enthusiasts accept when they purchase a car.” he said.

“The RX8 was slated in the 2007 JD Power Survey for its oil consumption and Mazda have made some superb improvements on the latest car to compensate. These are not available retrospectively however, and so we felt that a product should be created to extend the engine life of the thousands of older cars out there in daily use.”

Prolong are so sure of the unique properties of the lubricant, that they offer a limited lifetime guarantee on any engine so equipped. If the engine is in perfect working order at the time of first use, they will guarantee that Prolong’s Rotary Blend will keep it that way. A revolution in rotary thinking!
