Since trackdays became a full-blown phenomenon there’s been all sorts of cars taking to the track with humble daily drivers, honed machines like the Lotus Elise and even redundant single seaters all pressed into action. I suppose it was inevitable that before long manufacturers would turn their attention to dedicated trackday cars. Undoubted pace setter in this sector is the Westfield XTR2, which is a fabulous road-legal missile which leaves little doubt as to its intentions. It’s been followed by other stripped for action devices with others inevitably on the drawing board all unmistakeably inspired by various Le Mans racers. What this new sector means is that if you want to stick with your Lotus Elise, then fine, but if you want to go a stage further there are serious alternatives with which you can attack every race circuit you care to mention. Of course you can also use the majority of these machines on the road, just don’t expect to use it for the monthly Tesco shop!

Power invariably comes courtesy of a variety of superbike engines due to their amazing power and the fact they are the nearest thing you’ll ever get to the sound of a Formula One engine.
