Been out this week at Blyton Park testing the superb Road Track Race MEVabusa, which managed to stun me with its sheer performance ability.

Blyton’s billiard table smooth 1.7-mile circuit was the perfect venue to test the 560kg exo-skeletal car with, as the name suggests, a Suzuki GSX-R1300 Hayabusa power that delivers around 180bhp.

CATERHAM’S CHESHIRE TIME ATTACK

After taking the honours last year, Caterham aims to defend its lap record at the 2013 Cholmondeley Pageant of Power (14-16 June) with its SP/300.R.

This year, a quartet of British sportscar manufacturers will go head-to-head, with four distinct vehicles in an attempt to better last year’s record run.

With a best time of 61.89 seconds on the narrow circuit in 2012, Caterham’s spectacular sports prototype racer will compete against exotic supercars and specialist track-day vehicles.

Caterham Drive Experience instructor, Scott Mansell, will once again take the wheel of the SP/300.R for the event.

WAXING LYRICAL

New from Wax Tailor and part of their Yorkshire Gold range is Liquid Gold Wax Cleaner that I tried on the notoriously difficult to clean well black Mica paint on my Audi, a surface that is a genuinely good gauge of a polish’s ability with many so-called market leaders not cutting it (literally!).

TAPERED PERFORMANCE

For many years classic Porsche, air-cooled Beetle and American V8 owners have been using Weber downdraft IDA carburettors to improve the performance of their engines.

Now Jenvey has launched a throttle body designed to replace the IDA carburettor to facilitate a conversion to EFi. Most noticeable is the bore spacing of these throttle bodies. Most Weber carbs have a bore spacing of 90mm but the IDA/TA has a larger one of 120mm.

Jenvey’s TAP48i also has a bore spacing of 120mm making them suitable for classic Beetle and Bus four cylinder engines and 289 Cobras and 427 big block engines.

LASER WATER TREATMENT

Laser Tools’ new British-designed water pump tester (part no. 5583) has been developed to test the function of mechanically driven cooling system water pumps in situ, while the engine is running. The tester gives an effective indication of the coolant flow by measuring the small pressure rises that occur due to the coolant flowing around the block.
