THE SKY AT NIGHT…

The first company to really grasp the potential of Chris Gibbs’ ‘Haynes Roadster’ book was Hartlepool-based, Saturn Sportscars, founded by Andy Hugill.

For a couple of years, Andy was kept very busy supplying book readers with a selection of parts to aid in their builds, from a bracket to a chassis to a GRP panel set right up to a standalone Saturn Roadster kit. He even developed a Mazda MX-5-based version, too.

Sadly, ill-health has meant that Andy has had to sell his business, although it hasn’t moved far. Next door, in fact! The Saturn project has been acquired by Nathan Smith More >

FILTERED

Filtration expert Pipercross has released a fully TOCA-approved filtration package that complies with the latest regulations while offering significant flow improvements over any previously sanctioned filter.

Hand-finished here in the UK, the BTCC homologated part features a double conical high-flow filter construction affixed to a full radius aluminium spinning. The lightweight outer housing is fully ceramic coated to help further reduce intake temperatures. Following feedback from race engineers, this outer housing is secured by over-centre clips, rather than bolts, to allow for rapid removal and cleaning between races, or during set-up and testing.

Thanks to its unique construction, the total filtration area More >

SPRING INTO ACTION

Suspension giant Eibach may be most commonly associated with high quality spring manufacture, but the firm also offers an extensive range of precision alignment components, allowing tuners and enthusiasts to create the ultimate all-around handling package.

Eibach’s alignment products cover a wide portfolio of vehicle types and the range encompasses almost every type of adjustment. From simple shims and camber bolts through to fully adjustable top mounts and suspension arms.

A wide variety of cars are covered in the catalogue, allowing owners to either correct their camber, caster and toe settings following the fitment of lowered suspension, or if preferred, create the More >

GOOD GOOD display…

Our colleagues at Complete Kit Car magazine have for several years been hosting a fine and dandy British sportscar pavilion at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, along with a selection of kitcar manufacturers.

2012 will see an expansion of the theme with a dedicated area given the catchy moniker of ‘British Specialist Sports Car Show’, which promises to an important expansion in front of the large Goodwood audience, adjacent to the cricket pitch, which sounds very much like the fine hot rod display the organisers put on in 2010, where our own Tony Thacker brought over several superb cars from the More >

MULTI-PURPOSE HACKSAW

Europe’s leading hand tool manufacturer, Facom, has launched the 603F hacksaw, a tool designed for durability and efficiency.

This new hacksaw is fitted with an innovative automatic blade tension system unique to Facom. With a traditional hacksaw, users have to adjust the blade tension manually, which can be tricky and often inaccurate. Putting the blade under high tension for any length of time could lead to the frame of the hacksaw becoming warped, and heavy use can see blade tension increasing, which can result in inaccurate cutting.

With Facom’s patented design, the tension on the new hacksaw is controlled automatically thanks to More >

SEXY SPORTSTER!

They might not be quite as high-profile as they once were but Devon-based Marlin Sportscars is still very much in production and are currently busy with a buoyant order book.

Their current model range consists of two excellent models – the modern, mid-engined 5EXI and the Sportster. The former requires no donor and uses either Volkswagen Group 1.9T or Honda 2-litre VTEC units that suit the car really well. Marlin boss, Mark Matthews, and several customers are enthusiastic competitors in the well-regarded highly-regarded Castle Combe GT Series, highlighting the car’s sports potential.

Meanwhile, Marlin’s other model is one of my personal favourites, More >

GELS AND POTIONS

Spautopia is a nice little, forward-thinking automotive car care company based in Rutland and producing and supplying a really innovative range of products that really do what they say on the packet, box, bottle or tin!

They’ve recently started stocking the UK-made Angelwax range of polishes and treatments with the interior trim reviver, AnGel being the latest addition. There are a lot of products around that claim to make your car’s trim return to ‘as-new’, most with mixed results either making your dashboard slippery and shiny, acting as a magnet for dust, or actually not doing anything at all.

FILTERED FOR PURITY…

PRO Range of re-usable oil filters from Viper Performance are intended for competition and race cars although they can also be used on road cars and classics where original filter elements are becoming difficulty to source.

The filter is completely re-usable and the washable stainless steel filter element can be re-used up to 10 times. The unique feature with this filter element is that it has a lareg maganet providing 50kg of pull that can attract ferrous swarf under 30 microns and remove them from the recirculating oil.

This is also useful for inspection of swarf, which could have potentially catastrophic consequences More >
