STAY COOL

Filling cooling systems in the traditional way can be messy and wasteful, as well as time-consuming. Facom’s new air-driven cooling system speed filler (935A) aims to address these issues by allowing systems to be refilled quickly, cleanly and without the risk of airlocks.

This is especially important in the case of modern vehicles, which lack bleed screws and where the radiator is often positioned either level with or below the top of the engine, making it impossible to rely on gravity to fill the system.

Facom’s cooling system speed filler connects to an air supply and creates a vacuum to draw new More >

OPEN INVITATION – MEV OWNERS GROUP AT CURBOROUGH

Those friendly, go-ahead folk at the MEV Owners Group have opened their annual Mog’ers Meeting at Curborough, near Lichfield, on July 19, up to other kitcar enthusiasts and clubs who fancy going along for a bit of car-related fun. The event celebrates its fifth anniversary in 2014.

MOG spokesman, Nigel Fozard said: “With the demise of three kitcar shows this year, which is our fifth annual gathering, we would like to open the facility up to other interested kitcar enthusiasts.

“Although historically it’s been an event run by MEV Owners Group exclusively for owners of MEV vehicles, this year, with the kind More >

NEW BOOTS AND PANTIES? HOW ABOUT ‘NEW WINGS AND HEADLIGHTS’?

The very affable, Vic Birch, has been offering his MGB ‘rubber-bumper’ conversion kit since mid-2012 and his VeeBee Wing operation has created a pleasing new front wing and headlight cowling design.

Vic’s design also features alternative headlight cowls that combine well with the new wings, especially with a price of just £399, which buys a pair of wings, cowls and a fixing kit complete with full instructions.

As an MGB enthusiast, and having restored his own car to concours standard, Vic felt that an alternative and more streamlined wing shape would be a good idea and also have the added benefit of More >

DRIVING HOME

Sometimes, it’s tempting to whack a screwdriver to shock a stubborn screw into releasing but the usual outcome is a damaged handle. This new, heavy duty screwdriver set from Laser Tools (part number 5737) is designed for such use as the high-strength shafts continue through the handle and when struck the shock is transferred straight through to the screw fixing. Ideal for seized and rusted screws.

Five drivers are included in the set: two flat 8mm with 200mm, and 305mm shaft lengths (both with a 13mm hex on the shaft for applying additional torque), and three Pz2 drivers, with 200mm, 305mm More >

CAN’T BEAT A BIT OF ‘SCALEY’

Here’s one for tomorrow’s kitcar builders perhaps…

Airfix and Scalextric (owned by Hornby Hobbies) have been announced as winners of prestigious awards at the London Toy Fair.

Airfix, who celebrate their 75th anniversary, this year are winners of the Toy Fair’s ‘Best New Toys 2014’ Construction category with the launch of the QUICK BUILD Bugatti Veyron and the Lamborghini Aventador.

These clip-together construction cars, which break away on impact are the first road vehicles to be featured in the Airfix QUICK BUILD range.

Both models roll-on their wheels for extended play, and are to be supported by an online viral campaign featuring a unique More >

NEW LISTER TAKES SHAPE

Following the recently announced purchase of the Lister Motor Company in 2013, the company has now published its 60th Anniversary Lister Jaguar brochure, which fully outlines the specifications for its forthcoming recreation of the iconic Lister Jaguar ‘Knobbly’ racing car.

With the order book already filling for the new car, Lister has produced its first new sales brochure in more than 25 years, with all the options and specification data now available to potential customers, as well as providing an insight into Lister’s iconic history. Interest in the Lister brand has never been higher and with values of the original 1950s More >

WHAT ANSAR DID NEXT…

One of the standouts of last weekend’s Autosport International was the launch of former Caterham Cars CEO and COO, respectively, Ansar Ali and Mark Edwards’ new Zenos E10 two-seater, in my opinion, a very exciting newcomer to the specialist car scene.

It was around 10.50am last Thursday at the NEC when the silky sheet was pulled back and the E10 was unveiled and the response to those gathered and the lightweight (circa 650kg) two-seater is certainly an eye-catching wheel-at-each-corner sportscar available from the amazingly good value price of £24,995.

That price is all the more spectacular when you consider the specification (Alcon More >

BUITONI? NO, THIS IS BERTINI!

I mentioned the impending arrival of the Bertini GT25 last week on Steve Says and lo and behold, the man behind the project, Anthony Cherry, has given me an update report on progress.

The BMW Z3-based Bertini GT25 could be a real winner, I reckon. It makes its public show debut at Stoneleigh show in early May. Development is coming along nicely.

The GT25 is the first of what I reckon will be many specialist cars based on BMW Z3 mechanicals, an overlooked two-seater that is ideal for donor use and available with a variety of engines from mild 2-litre four-pot to More >
