Mike has come up with a very clever package that – demo car based on a 350bhp chipped turbocharged version – uses an exact body shell, blending it with incredible skill levels. Anyone who can add Ford interior components with Japan’s finest and make them look like they belong there is a skilled man.

We’ve already done a feature on the car and you can read all about it in the September/October issue of tkc mag – a nice back-to-back effort with a genuine car, we did at Brands Hatch recently – and best news is, it will be affordable.

Give Mike your donor MR2, he’ll do all the hard work for you like fitting body panels and hand you back a ‘roller’ ready for you to trim and finish. He’ll charge you around £8000 for the service.

Planet Engineering of Salisbury………….has come up with a very cool Morgan-inspired three-wheeler called the Ellipse.

It’s the work of custom motorcycle and classic car experts, Alan Pitcairn and Dave Kennell, who between them have over 30-years engineering experience and they’ve cleverly given the car classic styling while incorporating modern technology, such as a digital dashboard.

Power comes from an S&S Cycles, Harley Davidson-derived, tuned 96ci vee-twin, normally found gracing custom choppers, mated to a Ford Type 9 five-speed gearbox. Drive to the single rear 15in wheel comes via their own CV-jointed driveshaft to their mono swinging-arm and a BMW R90 bevel-box. Horsepower is estimated at around 90bhp.

Underpinning the whole ensemble is a two-part chassis. The front section consists of round DOM mechanical tubing, 2mm and 2.5mm wall thickness, fully jigged and TIG welded while the rear section is constructed from square tube, for greater contact and adhesion to the body, with integral sheet floor-pan, bulkhead and tunnel.

Front suspension is via double unequal length wishbones and uprights made in-house with coil-over Hagon adjustable dampers with stopping power coming courtesy of twin-pot Brembo Goldline calipers.

Webcon has just released………..new air horns for use with 40 and 45 DCOE carburettors in a range of lengths from 16-75mm. The air horns are designed to insert into the carb bodies, and this ensures that the auxiliary venturis are located correctly.

Flange-mounted air horns do not have this feature, and the flow characteristics are also inferior. The air horn flare is designed to optimise the air-flow in relatively confined situations. A distance of only half the diameter of the carburettor throttle from the air horn flare to the nearest obstruction (ie air filter cover) is required.

When selecting air horn length it is important to consider their influence on tuning the rpm at which the maximum volumetric efficiency and therefore torque of the engine is achieved. Longer air horn length will tend to favour power at a lower rpm and shorter horns at higher.
