SNAKE BITE – XCS DESIGNS

A new Cobra replica isn’t a regular occurrence these days and it stands to reason that when a new one does turn up it gets a bit of attention, to say the least.

The men behind this new one, Peter Walker and Gary Sanders, have been DJ Sportscars’ engineering and design gurus for many years and the likelihood is that the XCS will be sold under the DAX banner as a premium plus type product. The car will certainly feature a DAX-sourced bodyshell.

The specification will definitely have Cobra lovers drooling with power coming from a supercharged GM LS3 V8 delivering a More >

SHARP INSTRUMENT – AUTOMOTIVE CREATIONS – ROYALE SABRE

The Royale Sabre was rightly regarded as one of the finest traditional roadsters and came from John Barlow, one of the UK’s foremost kitcar design talents, who’ll be unveiling his latest creation, the RAZOR three-wheeler at Stoneleigh, of course.

Unfortunately, despite the acclaim, the car has had a bit of a chequered production history, although it sold in good numbers, although new custodian, Malcolm Badger of Automotive Creations, aims to change all that and has resurrected this cracking car and at Stoneleigh will unveil his all-new demonstrator powered by a Ford Zetec engine delivering 170bhp, which features a few revisions and More >

A SPYDER WITHOUT SIX LEGS – MEV X5 LIGHTWEIGHT

The prolific Stuart Mills he of Mills Extreme Vehicles, is well on his way to joining the exclusive club of iconic kit car designers and this weekend’s National Kit Car Motor Show at Stoneleigh will see him launch not one but TWO new designs…

The MEV X5 Lightweight features a Spyder body configuration that is sure to be attractive and affordable, and although it uses the Mazda MX-5 as donor, it eschews the Japanese cars chassis in favour of MEV’s own spaceframe and from I’ve seen thus far it will give it the appearance and stance of the highly-regarded Lotus 2-Eleven.

FLYING MACHINE – DEHAVIILAND MOTOR COMPANY

Although it was announced this time last year, the National Kit Car Motor Show this weekend will mark the public debut of the De Havilland Motor Company’s new DVT GT and DVT GTS, exotic Italian-inspired body conversions based on MGF with ease of build very much in mind.

Details on this one have yet to be officially announced but you can find out more at the show or of course, here next Friday.

SMOKIN’ – SAMMIO MOTOR COMPANY CORDITE

Gary Janes is one of the UK’s most noted hot rodders – indeed he was one of the eleven founding members of the (in)famous Low Riders Club and has also been behind the Dooster and Bay Area Rods projects.

Since turning his attention to kitcars, Gary and his Sammio Motor Company operation have enjoyed good sales of fifties-inspired kits that evoke the specials era and use readily available donors that can be built on a shoestring.

The Sammio Spyder is Gary’s big seller, based on Triumph Herald, while a Citroën 2CV-based variant is called the Cheveux. Stoneleigh will see the launch of More >

IN A WHIRL – VORTEX V2

Now, we all know that the (Phantom) Vortex GTR was one of the most stylish and pleasing kitcar designs of the last 15-years, which is hardly surprising given the pedigree of the man behind the project, Chris Greville-Smith and the car remains available, and should in my view, have sold many more than it actually has.

Chris, has a strong motorsport background with his own Phantom marque, while his dad raced GT40s at Le Mans, and Chris was a top-drawer designer who formerly worked for Ford, Land Rover and Jaguar. The distinctive rear lights on the gorgeous latest Jaguar XJ? That More >
