Marlin Cars is busy down in deepest Devon working away on their new Avatar, while also helping customers finish off their various Marlin models and assisting with submitting their cars for IVA.

Actually, it’s not just their own cars either as they are being asked more and more to help owners with other kitcars as Marlin boss, Terry Matthews told me: “It’s great varied work and keeps the guys challenged and busy. Of course we are still trying to finish our latest Sportster demonstrator but always seem to run out of hours in the day.

“We have just finished and IVA’d a lovely left-hand drive Sportster, which is stunning. The owner has chosen a very different way of having the car two-toned and it works very well. We are also nearly ready to put a Marlin Cabrio through the test. This car has the most beautiful red leather trim, light grey carpets and gorgeous silver paintwork with a subtle hint of blue undertones.”

This got Terry thinking about possibly putting the Cabrio back into production as she feels that it never really got the recognition it deserved when originally in production.

Terry again, “The intension would be to sell it in kit form as well as in turnkey guise (as before) but we would probably market it as a complete kit-in-a-box as it seems this is the way most kitcar companies are now going.

“There would be a limited amount of chassis’ built and they would be marketed as the Marlin Cabrio Mk2, a special ‘heritage’ limited edition. Of course we would need to re-look at the running gear and have given some thoughts to Mazda MX-5 along with a few other suitable RWD cars.”

The Cabrio was indeed a lovely car and I’m pleased to hear it will be returning to production.
