GD boss, Andy Burrows (nearest camera) prepares for yet another test drive last Saturday at the company’s excellent open day.
You know, I’ve heard it said that if you test drive a TESLA MODEL S, you’ll buy one. I think it’s the same with a GD!

We were at Gardner Douglas Sports Cars’ factory open day last Saturday, their first for an amazing thirteen years (track-based events have run during the interim) and also our first chance to view their new premises in Grantham, beautifully-located right by the side of the A1 where it meets the A607.

I am hugely impressed with the new facility, a whopper at over 10,000sq/ft with the luxury of designated areas for chassis fabrication, glassfibre laminating, general workshop area and a showroom that can hold around eight cars.

It puts me in mind of the old TVR factory on Bristol Road, Bispham, albeit in a slightly smaller guise but that had similar separate rooms for jobs involved in car builds.

Over 250 owners and the curious turned up for what was a glorious day and the GD team undeterred by a couple of sharp rain shower intrusions were kept busy all-day, with plenty of test drives also booked.

It was a privileged insight into what makes GD tick, I think, and frankly just why their owners love being part of the now 27-year old marque, run by Andy and Meena Burrows.

Big congrats to all concerned. More information on GD Mk3, GD Mk4, GD T70 and GD Moda via www.gdcars.com or 01476 567 180 ENDS.
