Global leader of partwork publishing DeAgostini is launching a new build-your-own model magazine series of the nation’s favourite classic car – the iconic Jaguar E-type – available now. The series will be published weekly, with the first issue on sale for two weeks from the launch date of mid-March.

The 100-part magazine series and accompanying build-up model kit has been developed closely with, and officially licensed by, Jaguar Land Rover. The highly detailed and exclusive model includes fully functional suspension, an opening bonnet and boot, real rubber tyres, working lights, and upholstery finished in genuine tan leather. The model created for the collection is based on a very rare 3.8-litre series 1 fixed-head coupé.

In 2015 the Jaguar E-type was voted the UK’s favourite classic car* in an independent research study and was originally described by Enzo Ferrari himself as “the most beautiful car ever made.”

Unveiled in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, the E-type immediately caused a sensation and went on to be one of the most desirable cars ever created. At the heart of the E-type lay one of the world’s great engines, Jaguar’s mighty XK power unit.

Amanda Honeybun, marketing director of De Agostini, said: “We have had huge demand for a build-your-own model of the iconic sixties Jaguar, so we are delighted to be finally launching this highly-detailed E-type model, which is exclusive to DeAgostini.

“Combining detailed replica design with authentic materials; we believe the E-type model is an absolute must-have for Jaguar aficionados and classic car fans and people all over the UK will enjoy creating this iconic car.”

Paul Brace, Technical Director at Jaguar E-type restoration company Eagle E-types who worked on creating the model, said: “Creating such an accurate Jaguar E-type miniature model was a long and challenging process to get right. I have lived and breathed the ‘Jaguar E-type’ for over thirty-years so working in collaboration with the Jaguar Heritage collection museum and my intimate knowledge of the car we have ensured absolute accuracy of the design. The result is a miniature model that is authentic, incredibly detailed and also simple to build for the budding model enthusiast.”

This magazine series has been written with input from Jaguar experts Paul Brace and Anders Ditlev Clausager, and with full access to Jaguar’s extensive archives. Each magazine contains articles that explore the history of Jaguar, examine the E-type’s place in popular culture, and get ‘under the hood’ to look at the design of this legendary British sports car, including:

The Jaguar Story: A history of the acclaimed British carmaker, covering the company’s motor-racing pedigree, its role in creating the sports car concept, and its current status as a manufacturer on the cutting edge of automotive design.

The E-type Era: Its iconic place in the history and culture of the Swinging Sixties.

Inside the E-type: Secrets of the E-type’s ground-breaking design and engineering.

Building the E-type: Step-by- step instructions on how to assemble the model.

The Jaguar E-type magazine series will be widely available online and at retailers across the UK and ROI. It is backed by a heavyweight television advertising campaign (which runs over the onsale period of issue 1), coupled with an extensive social media and online campaign. Issue 1 retails at £1.99/€2.50, Issue 2 is just £4.99/€6.99 and issue 3 onwards is £8.99/€10.99.
